School Counsellor

Job Location: School Counsellor
Work Type: 1.0FTTE or 1.0FTE Fixed Term Full time position – South Auckland, immediate start – Dec 2019

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced full time School Counsellor who ideally will be a registered teacher to join our Specialist Services Team providing confidential counselling, pastoral care and health and wellbeing teaching services to Deaf and hard of hearing learners (Y1-Y15) enrolled in the KDEC Core School Deaf Provisions based at our partner schools in the Ormiston, Flat Bush area, and their families/whānau, working closely with teachers and staff in both the School and the Residential Hostel.

Your previous experience working within either the educational or social sector will support the Specialist Services Team to provide a holistic service for our learners.

You will be:
  • enthusiastic, innovative, highly motivated and organised
  • NZAC or NZCCA registered guidance counsellor
  • culturally responsive to our learners, their whanau, and our wider community.
You will have:
  • Strong communication skills including New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) or demonstrate a commitment to learning NZSL.
  • Demonstrate a professional and caring manner and are adept at building and maintaining relationships with our learners, families, centre staff and teachers whilst expressing sensitivity to cultural and ethnic diversity.
  • The ability to work independently and manage your time effectively.

A current driver’s license is required as there will be a need for travel to between our bases of operation within Metropolitan Auckland. You will also need a valid permit to both live and work in New Zealand.
