Health and Safety Advisor

Job Location: Kelston Deaf Education Centre
Work Type: Fixed Term Position 0.5FTE – (National position based in Metropolitan Auckland)

Kelston and van Asch Deaf Education Centre provides educational pathways and support for deaf and hard of hearing learners across New Zealand. Our organisation is undergoing considerable change to ensure we meet the learning and welfare needs of deaf and hard of hearing learners around NZ.

We are looking for a talented Health & Safety Advisor to join our Team and reporting to the Acting Principal at Kelston Deaf Education Centre. This is an exciting and pivotal role to provide advice and guidance on health and safety management across Kelston Deaf Education Centre and van Asch Deaf Education Centre.

Your experience and knowledge in current Health and Safety best practice preferably from the social or educational sector will inform your approach to educating our leaders and staff.

    You will:
  • Drive Health and Safety Systems, processes and operational procedures;
  • Provide guidance and support to develop up to date hazard, accident and incident management assessments;
  • Identify Health and Safety Training needs and create engaging and visual programmes for our staff across NZ.

You will be a strong communicator and have excellent organisational skills. You will be culturally responsive to our Deaf and hard of hearing staff and learners. Ideally you will be a user of New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) or commit to learning NZSL.
